Historique :	Ce tableau reproduit l'âge véritable de la Majesté de Compostelle telle qu'elle fut rénovée peu après 1660 sous la direction du chanoine D. José Vega y Verdugo. Un exemplaire de la gravure dont cette toile est inspirée se trouve à la Biblioteca National à Madrid. La seule différence est l'absence à Broué des anges qui couronnent l'apôtre.

Précision_sur la representation :	L'apôtre est assis sur un trône à accoudoirs et dossiers chantournés. Ses épaules sont couvertes d'un mantelet de cuir. Sa main droite déroule un phylactère où se lit : 'PRO SALVE EJUS TRANSMISISTI ME DOMINE', tandis que sa gauche tient un bourdon. Cette toile unique en France s'inspire d'une oeuvre espagnole connue par la gravure.
